Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with 16-year-old Manchester United forward JJ Gabriel to sign him in January.

Real Madrid are closing in on signing 16-year-old Manchester United forward JJ Gabriel after reaching a verbal agreement with him and his representatives. Gabriel walked out on United in September and has not trained with the club since, instead training independently in Spain. He requested to leave after growing frustrated with limited first-team opportunities and concerns about United's decline. Real Madrid intend to sign him in January using a FIFA loophole that allows European clubs to offer professional contracts to young players with EU passports; Gabriel qualifies through both his parents. Manchester United have not been contacted by Real or Gabriel's camp and are preparing to consider legal action if they believe regulations have been broken, though compensation will be due regardless. Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich also expressed interest in the teenager, who scored a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut and was named Premier League Under-18 Player of the Season last term at age 14.
