Retired nurse Becky Christmas has raised more than £15,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through 339 outdoor challenges in Cumbria.

Retired nurse Becky Christmas is nearing the end of Challenge 365, a year-long fundraising effort that began on January 1 in Barrow. The challenge has inspired people across Cumbria to join her in various outdoor pursuits. She has raised more than £15,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through 339 outdoor challenges so far.

Christmas has completed 205 out of 214 Wainwrights, with plans to finish by November 27, and 103 out of 116 Outlying Fells, which she aims to complete next week. As of now, she has 24 fells remaining. The challenge has included circuits of Thirlmere, Haweswater, Ennerdale and Esthwaite, as well as swims in 13 other lakes and 12 tarns.

As word of the challenge spread, others wanted to create their own challenges and undertake what Christmas calls achieving their 'mini Everest'. This led to an extra 26 activities being undertaken, some hills walked multiple times. One such activity included Cumbrian Heavy Horses riding up Black Combe as Christmas walked behind.

Christmas described the physical toll of nearing the challenge's end, saying: 'The body is tired, the legs are stiff, shoulders ache, so each day will be a fab achievement.' She added that she knows 'this is the hard end of the year' but stated: 'We have this.' She plans to finish with 26 fells to be completed in 26 days plus a finale event.

Christmas reflected on the experience, saying: 'It has been a privilege to undertake this year and have so many people join in.' She expressed gratitude to 'Bill behind the scenes' for his support throughout the year-long effort.
