The RSPCA is investigating the death of a two-year-old black cat found with the back half of her body missing in Hedge End, Southampton.

The RSPCA is investigating the suspicious death of a two-year-old black cat named Raven found in Hedge End, Southampton, with the back half of her body missing. A member of the public discovered her in Stroudley Way and took her to a vet, where four staff members examined her injuries and contacted the RSPCA.

Raven's owners had been searching for her after a neighbour found what appeared to be her tail on a path close to their home. They last saw her at around 7.30am on Monday, 5 October. Her owners were traced through her microchip and were left devastated by the news of her death.

RSPCA deputy chief inspector Jo Story said: "We are very grateful that the member of the public was kind enough to take Raven to the vet and really feel for her family who are grieving losing a much-loved pet." She added that whilst sometimes animals die from other causes such as being hit by a vehicle before wild animals find the body, "we are not ruling out other possibilities in this case." The animal welfare charity is appealing for information about what happened to the cat.
