Delboy, a French bulldog cross, has been rehomed after spending nearly two years at the RSPCA's Longview Animal Centre in Lancashire.
Delboy, a French bulldog cross named after the Only Fools and Horses character, has finally been rehomed after spending more than 600 days at the RSPCA's Longview Animal Centre in Stalmine, Lancashire. He had become the centre's longest-staying resident since arriving in October 2024, signed over due to welfare concerns.
The dog was affectionate with people he knew but needed time and patience to learn to trust unfamiliar faces, especially men. Despite his gentle nature, he was repeatedly overlooked by potential adopters during his lengthy stay.
Mike and Corrine Neale, from the Fylde coast, chose to adopt Delboy after seeing one of the animal centre's appeals. Having experience caring for rescue dogs with behavioural challenges, they visited the centre around ten times to build a rapport with him, including taking him on days out and overnight stays at home. "We chose Delboy because he desperately needed a forever home," Mike said. Catherine Connolly, his main handler at the centre, said seeing him settle into his forever home "has made every setback and every difficult day worth it".
Since being adopted, Delboy has settled in well with his new family and has already been on his first holiday to Northumberland.
