A 23-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested after a car crash in Tempe, Arizona severely injured a California mariachi musician on 9 October.

A Scottsdale man has been arrested after a pedestrian crash in Tempe, Arizona left a mariachi musician with severe injuries. Nathaniel McKean, 23, allegedly struck Adan Alcala on McClintock Drive near Palmcroft Drive just after midnight on 9 October. Alcala, who performs as 'Niko Stixx' and drums for Los Angeles-based group The Outlaw Mariachi, had sustained several bone fractures in his arm, shoulder and spine, as well as internal organ injuries, according to court documents.

Police said McKean's vehicle was driving the wrong way and on the sidewalk when it hit Alcala. After the collision, McKean continued driving in the northbound lanes before correcting to the southbound lanes and again driving onto the sidewalk, where he struck a light pole and knocked off his car's sideview mirror. Police used the mirror to identify the vehicle as a white 2017 or newer Tesla Model 3.

About an hour after the crash, a Tesla Model 3 matching the description was found abandoned on a public road in a neighbourhood roughly half a mile from the crash scene. Officers confirmed the abandoned vehicle had damage consistent with hitting a person and matched the mirror found at the scene.
