Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice as police search for two convicted sex offenders who fled their trial.

Brothers Fayaz and Imtiaz Ahmed absconded during a child sexual offences trial in Bradford. Fayaz Ahmed, 45, was found guilty of two counts of rape and sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in his absence on 17 January 2025. Imtiaz Ahmed, 61, was convicted of rape and sentenced to nine years in his absence. The offences related to the rape of a girl in Keighley in the 1990s when she was 13 or 14.

West Yorkshire Police have arrested seven people on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. Four men and three women, aged between 28 and 52, were arrested at addresses in Keighley, Bingley, Birmingham and the Nelson area of Lancashire. All seven have been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Superintendent Vicky Greenbank said: "These arrests are part of our commitment to ensure that two serious sexual offenders are located and apprehended so that justice is served. We continue to carry out enquiries to locate Fayaz and Imitaz." Police have issued bench warrants for the brothers' arrest and are appealing for information about their whereabouts.
