A 20-year-old man was stabbed during a fight involving two groups in Derby on Monday evening and is now in stable condition.

Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a street fight in Vincent Street, Normanton, Derby on Monday evening at about 20:55. A 20-year-old man suffered life-threatening stab wounds and was taken to hospital, though is now in stable condition. A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man also sustained head injuries, which police said are not thought to be serious.

Police said a group of men and teenage boys arrived in two vehicles – a grey VW Polo and a white VW Golf – and began fighting with another group using a knife and a hammer. The suspects were traced shortly afterwards in two vehicles in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, where officers recovered a knife. Four 16-year-old boys and three men, aged 19, 20 and 20, were arrested and remain in police custody.

Temporary Detective Inspector Alex Hathaway said: 'We fully appreciate that incidents of this nature will cause concern in the community. We believe this was an isolated incident, those involved are known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public.' Police said residents will see increased patrols in the area and are appealing for witnesses and any CCTV, Ring doorbell or dashcam footage.
