Shrewsbury held its largest one-day charity collection in Shropshire on 4 November, with over 200 RAF personnel helping raise funds for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

Shrewsbury hosted the largest one-day charity collection in Shropshire on Wednesday, 4 November, with over 200 serving personnel from RAF Shawbury and RAF Cosford collecting donations for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

Volunteers and RAF personnel sold poppies across the town centre, whilst activities at the Market Square showcased military vehicles and featured entertainment from Shrewsbury Brass Band. The Royal British Legion encouraged members of the public to speak with serving members of the military and learn more about the support and services the charity offers to those currently in service, as well as veterans and their families.

Jenny Komiatis, Poppy Appeal Manager for Shropshire, said: 'The Royal British Legion's annual Poppy Appeal brings the nation together to raise vital funds for the Armed Forces community. It was wonderful to see so many people supporting our event in Shrewsbury, not only by donating and wearing a poppy, but also by taking the time to engage with members of our local Armed Forces community.' She added that this year the appeal highlighted the families behind those in uniform and the unique sacrifices they make. 'From short-term assistance to lifelong support, every donation helps the RBL be there for serving personnel, veterans and their families, whenever they need us,' she said.
