Summarised from The Leader's report · Updated 5 Nov, 10:19 · Archive

Jan Kardasz, a two-time Welsh veteran cyclo-cross champion from Wrexham, has died aged 66.

Jan Kardasz died aged 66 at Nightingale House Hospice on 31 October following a battle with bladder cancer. He grew up in Cefn Mawr and became a fabricator and welder. He began cycling seriously after moving to Rossett in 2011 and became a very active competitor in cyclo-cross at the North West cyclo-cross Club. He was the veteran cyclo-cross champion for Wales in 2021 and 2024 and was an active member of Wrexham Fibrax Cycling Club.

His sister Christine said: "Jan was a much respected rider and competitor. He was also keen to encourage, support and cheer on younger riders." She added that the wider cycling community's messages of support and visits to hospital had been a great comfort to the family. His brother Phil said they were very close growing up and later worked together in Morecambe.
