The Tampa Bay Rays have swept the New York Yankees in three games to reach the American League Championship Series.

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 on Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep of the Division Series at Yankee Stadium. Ryan Vilade and Victor Mesa Jr. hit home runs in the victory, with Vilade playing his first game since 27 September.

The Rays secured a berth in the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2020. They finished the regular season 98-64, the best record in the American League. They will face the winner of the White Sox and Guardians series, with their first home ALCS game at Tropicana Field scheduled for Monday—their first such game there since 2008. Their previous ALCS appearance in 2020, a seven-game victory over Houston, was played at San Diego's Petco Park due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rays players celebrated in the visitors' clubhouse at Yankee Stadium, singing 'Theme from New York, New York' while locked arm in arm. Star player Junior Caminero said 'The best team in the world right here.' Manager Kevin Cash told the team 'We got two more bites — two more bites on the bone! Nobody sleeps!' The Rays are aiming for their first World Series title.
