The Tampa Bay Rays have reached the World Series for the first time in franchise history after defeating the Cleveland Guardians in six games in the American League Championship Series. The Rays won three games in a row to close out the series after sweeping the New York Yankees in their Division Series.
All-Star third baseman Junior Caminero hit his first postseason home run in the clinching 7-3 victory on Monday night, launching a drive off the left-field foul pole to give the Rays a four-run cushion in the seventh inning. Veteran slugger Yandy Díaz also homered, blasting a two-run shot in the eighth inning. After the game, Caminero shouted to fans: 'Tampa, this is for you!'
The Rays, known for their low payroll and small-ball style, will face the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series. The Brewers are another small-market club that has also never won a World Series championship. The World Series matchup will see both teams seeking their first titles in franchise history.
