Somerset Council has recognised 49 individuals, organisations and youth representatives at its Chairman's Service to the Community Awards.

Somerset Council has honoured 49 volunteers, community groups and youth representatives at its Chairman's Service to the Community Awards. The ceremony, hosted by Somerset Council chair Cllr Mike Best at Taunton Rugby Club, recognised individuals and organisations nominated by city, town and parish councils across the county.

Cllr Best said the awards provided 'a wonderful opportunity to recognise and thank people who give their time and energy to their communities across Somerset'. He added that much of their work happens 'quietly and without expectation of recognition, but their contribution makes a real difference to the places in which they live'.

The awards included both individual and group recipients. A special award was presented to Somerset's three Members of Youth Parliament and their advisory group, recognising their efforts in representing the county and supporting the work of the Youth Parliament.

Cllr Best is making 12 separate presentations to recipients who were unable to attend the main ceremony. These presentations are being made in their local communities, with the first given to Jane Monk at a Compton Pauncefoot parish meeting. Others will follow in Misterton, Ash, East Brent, Williton, Sparkford, Minehead, Halse, Rode, Chapel Allerton, Watchet and Old Cleeve.
