TfL plans to scrap south London bus route 415

Summarised from 3 outlets · Updated 12 Oct, 11:56 · Archive

Transport for London proposes withdrawing the 415 bus service and extending the 333 route in its place.

Transport for London has launched a consultation on proposals to withdraw the 415 bus route completely and extend the 333 service in its place. The 415 currently runs between Old Kent Road Tesco and Tulse Hill station, serving Elephant and Castle, Kennington, Oval and Brixton.

Under the proposals, the 333 would be extended from its existing terminus at Elephant and Castle to Old Kent Road Tesco. It would follow the northern section of the 415's current route and would create new direct links between Old Kent Road, Elephant and Castle, Stockwell, Streatham and Tooting Broadway.

However, the changes would mean passengers travelling between Old Kent Road and Brixton or Tulse Hill would lose their direct service. Some journeys between Kennington, Oval and Tulse Hill would also require passengers to change buses at Elephant and Castle or Brixton.

Transport for London said passenger demand on the 415 had fallen significantly since the Covid pandemic. The transport body argued that other services, particularly the 2 and 432, had sufficient spare capacity to accommodate people affected by the proposed withdrawal. TfL also said extending the 333 would simplify the bus network whilst maintaining key connections.

The consultation opened on Monday, October 5, and closes on Sunday, November 15. Members of the public can participate in the consultation online.
