Moulin Rouge! The Musical returns to Sydney with rising star Erin Clare as Satine and Nigel Huckle as Christian.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is returning to Sydney with a new cast. Rising star Erin Clare takes the role of Satine, the lead character at the cabaret nightclub, with musical theatre performer Nigel Huckle playing Christian, the idealistic young man who falls in love with her. The production returns to the city where Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor was made.

Clare said she was excited to take on Satine while honouring Kidman's legacy in the role. She hopes to capture Satine's 'stoicism and strength', bringing her own interpretation to the glamorous courtesan. Performing in her home city adds particular significance for Clare. 'Whatever you've seen in this beautiful city, nothing really compares to walking into the theatre,' she said.

Huckle, whose previous credits include Les Misérables and West Side Story, described Moulin Rouge's epic, high-energy jukebox score as a chance to showcase a different side of his vocal abilities. 'This is the first modern pop performance I've done where I can show my vocals in this way,' he said. The musical has travelled to stages around the world, from Europe to an upcoming production in China, and has built a devoted following with some fans returning to see it multiple times.
