Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 17 Oct, 14:32 · Archive

Cambridgeshire Police's Rural Crime Action Team recovered nearly £700,000 of stolen property in six months.

Cambridgeshire Police's Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) recovered £699,000 of stolen property and made 26 arrests during the six-month period from April to September. The team recovered 48 stolen vehicles, trailers, plant machinery and other assets. Among these were 11 cars worth more than £120,000, 13 pick-up vehicles valued at almost £217,000, five items of plant machinery worth £206,000 and three caravans worth more than £46,000.

Beyond property recovery, the team carried out 12 vehicle pursuits and dealt with 107 driving offences. Officers seized 39 uninsured vehicles, recorded 12 drug-possession offences and arrested two people on suspicion of drink-driving. The team disrupted organised criminal activity across the county.

Sergeant Tom Nuttall, who leads RCAT, said the team provides 'specialist support across Cambridgeshire, from pursuing dangerous offenders and recovering stolen property to locating missing people and assisting with major incidents'. He noted that whilst known for hare coursing work, the team undertakes broader responsibilities. The team also supported Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service during summer woodland fires, using thermal-imaging drones to identify hotspots and monitor fire behaviour.
