The stars of the Outback Truckers documentary series are preparing for a West Australian world premiere of a new live show.
The stars of Outback Truckers, a documentary series following Australian truck drivers, are preparing for a West Australian world premiere of a new live show. Steve Grahame, Yogi and Sludge claim they have done more for Western Australian tourism than any other agency combined. The programme, now in its 13th season of filming, has become a massive hit in the UK, Germany and Poland, with audiences drawn to the trio's rough-around-the-edges charm.
The three truckers, based south of Perth, have each been travelling the country for decades. They attribute their enduring appeal to trucking and being unapologetically themselves. 'We've had really good people from the start that said, if you act like a tool, you'll be a tool on TV. We were taught to just be yourself,' Yogi said.
Grahame's global recognition was confirmed during a visit to Vienna, when his accountant recognised him on hotel television. 'He said, I couldn't believe it, Steve, there was your dreadful Australian nasal twang coming out of the TV in an upmarket hotel in Vienna,' Grahame told The West. Sludge, who has been trucking for about 50 years, said he preferred being out in the bush where there are no lights at night.
