ESPN commentator Stephen A Smith named Deshaun Watson as the frontrunner for NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.

ESPN commentator Stephen A Smith declared on Tuesday's edition of First Take that Deshaun Watson is the frontrunner for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. Watson has led the Cleveland Browns to five wins in seven games this season, with the team currently holding first place in the AFC North division. Smith acknowledged the discomfort in making the case, saying: 'It's uncomfortable to say it, but it's true.'

Watson's path back to prominence has been marked by adversity. He faced sexual misconduct allegations from 24 massage therapists, many claiming he exposed himself or touched them inappropriately during massages. Watson denied the allegations and said any sexual encounters were consensual. He was not criminally prosecuted but was suspended by the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy. Last season, he missed the entirety of the year with an Achilles injury.

Smith highlighted Watson's performance this season, noting that he has thrown for more than 1,400 yards in seven games and has led the Browns to all five of their victories from behind in the fourth quarter, demonstrating his ability to deliver in crucial moments. His comments drew visible discomfort from his co-star Chris Canty during the broadcast. The Browns face division opponent Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, with a chance to extend their lead atop the AFC North.
