Republican Susan Collins and Democrat Troy Jackson are running neck-and-neck in Maine's Senate race, according to CBS News and YouGov polling.

Republican incumbent Senator Susan Collins and Democratic challenger Troy Jackson are running virtually neck-and-neck in Maine's highly-watched Senate race, according to the latest CBS News and YouGov polling.

In a televised debate on Tuesday, Collins pointedly distanced herself from Donald Trump, presenting an image of independence in a state that has voted against Trump three times. She proclaimed herself as not the US president's 'favorite senator' and made the unusual boast for a Republican that she had voted with President Biden more than 90 per cent of the time. Collins also said she opposed Trump's proposed Iran war and Canada tariffs.
