Nick Howe, co-founder of Paranormal Research Investigators UK, has recalled investigations at three potentially haunted Essex sites.
Nick Howe, aged 69, co-founded Paranormal Research Investigators UK (PRIUK) in 2013 alongside Andy Wilson, following years of paranormal research with a group called The Ghost Club. Howe has recalled investigations at three Essex locations that could potentially be haunted.
Tilbury Fort, which sits on the north bank of the River Thames in Thurrock, was visited by Howe and his team in September 2017. Howe describes it as 'a classic case' for the organisation. During the investigation, an electronic voice phenomena (EVP) device recorded what sounds like a whispering voice that could be understood to say 'Well, Scotsmen'. The team has posted two YouTube videos relating to this investigation.
The three locations investigated were Tilbury Fort, Thaxted House and the Essex Regiment Museum. Howe's investigations reportedly discovered sounds including possible swearing ghosts, very loud thumps and children's voices.
Howe has described his approach to paranormal investigation as scientific. He stated: 'We want to do things in such a way where you might say we had a scientific approach. Our findings are what we've discovered ourselves, but we look for rational explanations, we're not sensationalists.'
Howe has also expressed caution about drawing conclusions from his findings. He said: 'I'm not even sure I'd say I believe in ghosts anyway. I've never been to a place and said that place is haunted because ultimately there could always been an explanation.'
