The fantasy film Wicker, starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, is set for release this month. The film centres on a lonely fisherwoman who commissions a woven husband to be made for her. Once brought to life, he causes disruption in their medieval village.

HuffPost UK reports that co-director Eleanor Wilson said the film's many sexual scenes became 'surprisingly more sexy' than anticipated once the cast was on set. 'We always thought of the sex scenes as the comedy of the film, too. They were supposed to be played for laughs, and they are,' Wilson told The Hollywood Reporter. 'But I think once we actually had Alexander in costume, Olivia and Ita O'Brien, our intimacy coordinator, working together on these scenes – that's when they did become surprisingly more sexy than we thought they would.'

Skarsgård plays the titular wicker husband in heavy prosthetics created using 3D printing. The directors emphasised that casting a striking actor was essential. Wilson explained that Skarsgård's facial expressions needed to be visible through the prosthetic for his performance to shine through. The production relied on practical effects with minimal VFX.
