Tebay tops M6 service stations ranking; Sandbach rated lowest

Summarised from 4 outlets · Updated 10 Oct, 07:08 · Archive

Tebay services has been ranked the best stop on the M6, while Sandbach ranked lowest, according to a study by United Minibuses and Coaches.

A ranking of motorway service stations compiled by United Minibuses and Coaches has revealed significant differences in quality across M6 stops. Tebay services scored highest with 37.2 out of 50, followed by Southwaite with 30.5, Hilton Park with 29.5, Corley with 29.1, and Burton-in-Kendal with 26.4. Sandbach services ranked lowest with just 13 out of 50.

The ranking assessed factors including parking charges, food options, outdoor spaces and hotel reviews. According to Zubair Rasool, Senior Director at United Minibuses and Coaches, a good service station can make a significant difference to a long motorway journey. He said motorway journeys can be tiring at any time of year, but certain periods present particular needs: families during school holidays require somewhere children can stretch their legs and find food they will eat, while winter drivers need a safe, comfortable place to rest properly before continuing.

Rasool noted that 'reasonably priced parking matters, particularly for people travelling in caravans or motorhomes, while outdoor space and a good choice of food can make a longer stop feel worthwhile.' He encouraged drivers to plan their stops in advance rather than simply pulling into the nearest available option. Planning which service stations to use along a route 'could make the whole journey less stressful, especially when you're travelling with children or facing several hours on the road.'
