Saffron Walden, an Essex market town, has been included in Muddy Stilettos' Top 260 Best Places to Live for 2027. The lifestyle website praised the town for combining 'chocolate-box looks' with plenty to see and do. Saffron Walden was one of eight places across Essex which made the list.

The north Essex town boasts medieval streets, colourful timber-framed buildings and a market which has been at the heart of the community for centuries. Its twice-weekly market continues to take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with stalls selling everything from food and plants to clothing, antiques and collectables.

Food and drink attractions were highlighted, with The Eight Bells in Saffron Walden among the pubs singled out. The town also has a thriving independent shopping scene, with businesses including Neon Leo, Blue and Me + Mrs Jones noted for fashion.

Cultural attractions include Saffron Hall, which regularly welcomes musicians and performers, along with Saffron Screen, Saffron Walden Museum and the Fry Art Gallery. Just outside town stands Audley End House and Gardens, a Jacobean mansion surrounded by parkland landscaped by Capability Brown.

However, living in one of Essex's desirable areas comes at a price. According to figures cited by Muddy Stilettos, the average Saffron Walden property sold for £460,985 over the previous year.
