Simply Red, fronted by Mick Hucknall, will perform at the 2027 Colchester Castle Summer Series at Lower Castle Park on Wednesday 18 August as part of their Summer Funk '27 tour. They will be joined by special guests Heather Small and Soul II Soul.
The band are one of the UK's most successful acts, with five number one albums, a string of top 10 singles, and multiple awards including three BRITs and two Ivor Novellos. The tour is their first since their 2025 40th anniversary celebration, which sold out almost 50 venues. That anniversary tour was commemorated with a live album, film, and box set titled Holding Back the Years: 40 Years of Simply Red, Live in Santiago.
Simply Red was formed in Manchester in 1984, with the band named after Hucknall's childhood nickname. More headliners for next year's Summer Series are to be announced. Ronan Keating has also been confirmed as a headliner for the summer series and will perform on 21 August 2027.
