At least 12 caravans have been illegally pitched at Muswell Hill playing fields in north London near multi-million-pound homes.

An illegal encampment of at least 12 caravans has been set up at Muswell Hill playing fields in north London, close to Coldfall Wood nature reserve. The site is surrounded by properties valued at around £1.5 million. Drone footage shows scorched grass believed to be from makeshift fires, and vehicles with both British and Irish number plates parked alongside the caravans.

Residents first reported seeing the camp last Thursday. One resident said on social media they saw a 'big orange gas tank' arrive at the site. Police have been seen in the area, though it is unclear whether the group has been served an eviction notice.

GB News reports that Muswell Hill is a regular site for traveller encampments. An encampment of at least 15 caravans occupied the same playing fields in August last year before being moved on by authorities following local backlash. A smaller gathering also appeared at nearby Albert Road Recreation Ground in June 2018.
