US President Donald Trump accused basketball star LeBron James of disrespecting the country after footage showed the player moving his body during the national anthem at an NBA game. The video was filmed at Madison Square Garden during the Philadelphia 76ers' victory over the New York Knicks on the first day of the new NBA season. It showed James pretending to swing a golf club and practising his free throw technique as The Star-Spangled Banner was performed.
Trump posted on Truth Social on Thursday, writing: 'While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country! I said right from the beginning that he's no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE.' The President called on James to apologize to American military personnel.
The comments mark the latest chapter in a long-standing feud between the two figures. James previously labelled Trump a 'bum' in 2017, and Trump launched another attack on James earlier this year shortly after the 41-year-old announced he was signing with the 76ers.
