Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 21 Oct, 19:02 · Archive

A Philadelphia rideshare driver has been charged after allegedly striking a pedestrian who was then killed by a tractor-trailer.

Andy Nunez Vasquez, a Philadelphia rideshare driver, has been charged with multiple offences after a fatal collision in East Norriton, Montgomery County on 6 September. Police say Vasquez struck Ricardo Baptiste, 29, with his car as Baptiste was crossing the street around Germantown Pike and Whitehall Road. After being struck, Baptiste was run over by a tractor-trailer and died. Vasquez allegedly fled the scene without rendering aid or reporting the incident to authorities.

Police arrived at around 9:10 p.m. and found Baptiste injured and unresponsive. He was taken to Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators determined that Baptiste had been struck by a white 2015 Hyundai Sonata through surveillance video and licence plate readers.

Vasquez, 43, now faces misdemeanour charges of failing to render aid and report an accident to police, as well as a felony count of accidents involving injury or death. He pleaded guilty to disobeying a traffic control device in 2023.
