A TikTok video has renewed attention to the 1990 unsolved murder of Darlington mum Ann Heron.
Ann Heron, a 44-year-old mother of three, was discovered dead in her living room at Aeolian House near Darlington on the afternoon of 3 August 1990. She had been sunbathing in the garden of her home, which was situated alongside the A67, before being found at around 6pm in a pool of blood, having suffered a fatal knife attack.
The case has been the subject of numerous police appeals, investigations and television documentaries over the decades, but nobody has been convicted of her murder. One significant line of inquiry involved reports of a suntanned man, believed to be aged between 35 and 45, who was reportedly seen driving away from the area in a blue car around the time of the killing. The identity of this man and his possible connection to the murder remain unknown.
Ann's husband, Peter Heron, was arrested and charged with her murder in November 2005, more than 15 years after her death. A TikTok creator known as True Crime with Emma has now revisited the case in an 11-minute video, using photographs and images of people connected to the investigation to examine the circumstances surrounding Ann's death and the questions that remain unanswered. Durham Constabulary continues its investigation into the cold case.
