A US servicewoman has avoided prison after causing the deaths of a married couple in a car collision in Suffolk. Jasmine Dessaure, 37, based at RAF Mildenhall, lost control of her Jeep Cherokee on the B1106 near Brandon on 15 April 2023. Her vehicle crossed into the path of a Nissan Note travelling in the opposite direction through Thetford Forest. Dilipan Sebastiampillai, 43, and his wife Dorota, 41, from the London Borough of Haringey, both died. The Nissan caught fire following the collision.

Dessaure pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by careless driving. At Peterborough Crown Court, Judge Sean Enright sentenced her to 12 months in custody suspended for two years, imposed an 18-month driving ban, and ordered her to complete 180 hours of unpaid work. The prosecution stated the crash occurred at around 5.30pm as a result of Dessaure's momentary lack of concentration. The prosecutor noted road edge deterioration contributed to the loss of control, with the vehicle veering from side to side following overcorrection.
