Democrats and Republicans are making final campaign pitches before Tuesday's midterm elections that will decide control of Congress.

Democrats and Republicans are making their final campaign pitches before Tuesday's midterm elections, which will determine control of the US Congress. President Trump held closing rallies in Kansas and Iowa on Sunday, states he had previously won in past elections.

In Michigan, a key battleground state, Democrat Haley Stevens surprised party leaders by publicly endorsing Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers after losing the state's Democratic primary to Abdul El-Sayed. Stevens appeared with Rogers at a Detroit church and posted a video to social media saying 'I don't belong in Abdul's campaign'. Representative Debbie Dingell said Stevens' endorsement created a 'distraction' for Democrats at a critical moment.

Meanwhile, a federal judge dismissed a Justice Department lawsuit seeking to block election certification in Alaska if Republican Senator Dan S Sullivan loses narrowly. The Justice Department had argued that voters might be confused by a challenger named Daniel J Sullivan Jr on the ballot. The New York Times reported that Democrat Mary Peltola's campaign was involved in recruiting Sullivan Jr into the race. Sullivan said on Sunday he would accept Tuesday's results. Peltola and Sullivan Jr have both denied the allegations.
