Residents near Monk Fryston Hall Hotel fear late-night drinking and entertainment could disrupt sleep and affect children's schooling.

Residents near Monk Fryston Hall Hotel, close to Selby in North Yorkshire, have raised concerns that proposals for late-night drinking and entertainment could disrupt sleep and leave children too tired for school.

Tokyo Industries Ultimate Ltd has applied for a premises licence at the hotel, which is undergoing refurbishment and will offer accommodation, dining and wedding services. The initial application sought permission for alcohol sales, live and recorded music, films, dancing and other entertainment both indoors and outdoors until 2am, every day of the week.

Following consultation with North Yorkshire Police and the council's environmental protection team, the applicant has amended the proposals. The revised application allows alcohol sales and live and recorded music indoors until 1am, with outdoor activities concluding at 10.30pm. Late-night refreshments would be offered indoors until 2am.

Monk Fryston Parish Council and local residents have objected to the licensing application. The parish council warned that the original proposals would damage the village's character and cause disturbance to neighbouring properties, citing concerns about amplified music, outdoor speakers from wedding marquees and noise from vehicles arriving and departing the venue.
