Luka Doncic scored 37 points as the Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 112-95 in an NBA Cup game on Friday night at Chase Center. The victory was the second meeting between the two teams this season, following an opening-night encounter on 21 October in which Doncic and Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg engaged in a heated exchange.

After that first game, Lendeborg received a technical foul and later told reporters he had 'lost all respect' for Doncic, alleging he was 'whining and complaining'. Before Friday's rematch, Lendeborg arrived at the arena dressed as Michael Myers from the horror film franchise. Warriors fans booed Doncic from early in the first quarter, with chants of 'Luka sucks' continuing throughout the opening period.

Doncic's response came on the court. He scored 24 points in the first half alone, including a three-pointer on his first possession that went over Lendeborg's head. The Lakers built a lead of 40-15 by the 11:40 mark of the second quarter. Facing a large deficit, Golden State fought back, with the teams tied at 53 by half-time, with Steph Curry contributing 14 points. Curry finished with 31 points overall on eight three-pointers.

Lendeborg struggled against the Lakers star. He was contained to single digits for the first time in his six-game NBA career, finishing with six points on three shot attempts. He also turned the ball over five times and fouled out with 2:45 remaining. Kerr said of Lendeborg: 'He's a really confident guy. Tonight just didn't go his way. Everybody has nights like this. The key is to bounce back with aggression and confidence.'
