Northern Ireland rescue seeks answers over severely malnourished dog

A Northern Ireland animal rescue has appealed for information after finding a severely malnourished dog in the Ballynahinch area.

Almost Home Animal Rescue NI discovered a dog in critical condition in the Ballynahinch area on November 1 and brought him to their centre in Moira. The rescue named the dog Arthur and described his condition as 'beyond anything we have ever seen'.

Arthur arrived desperately underweight and severely malnourished, with additional health problems including a skin infection and overgrown nails. He struggles to walk properly, and the rescue believes he has spent much of his life confined to an extremely small space with little opportunity for normal movement.

The rescue has issued a public appeal for information about Arthur's background. In a statement, they said: 'Someone, somewhere, knows this dog. Someone will recognise him. Someone may know where he came from, who owned him or how he ended up in this condition.' They are asking people with any information to contact Belfast City Council's Animal Welfare team or message Almost Home directly, particularly those in the Ballynahinch area.

The rescue acknowledged the emotional challenge of Arthur's situation, noting that despite his suffering, he shows trust in his carers. 'He allows us to care for him, and that little bit of trust means more than we can ever put into words,' they said.
