Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 4 Nov, 21:46 · Archive

A West Belfast man received a suspended 14-month sentence for stealing a £15,000 Renault Arkana from a Charles Hurst dealership.

Anthony John McGurk, 38, of Ross Road in West Belfast, received a suspended 14-month sentence for stealing a £15,000 Renault Arkana from Charles Hurst on Boucher Road on 5 November 2025. Belfast Crown Court heard that around 1.30 pm, McGurk entered the car park and got into the SUV, which had been left with its keys in it as a delivery driver moved other cars around the yard. He drove out onto Boucher Road, jumped a red light and headed towards Stockmans Lane.

McGurk was identified from CCTV footage and arrested. During police interview he gave no comment to all questions. The prosecution described the theft as looking 'more opportunistic than planned', noting he 'walked through the barrier in broad daylight, took the car and drove straight out'. The car has still not been recovered.

The court heard McGurk carried out the theft while subject to a Probation Order due to expire the following day. McGurk has an extensive criminal record of 82 offences, including 12 thefts, three burglaries, three robberies and two counts of handling stolen goods.
