Atletico Madrid face Manchester United in the Champions League's second matchday on Tuesday, with Atletico in form and United struggling.

Atletico Madrid host Manchester United in the Champions League's second matchday on Tuesday at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid. Atletico are in strong form, sitting second in La Liga, five points behind leaders Barcelona, with six wins, one draw and one loss from eight games. Manchester United, by contrast, are 12th in the Premier League with only six points from six matches, having won just one game.

United beat Sabah 4-0 in their Champions League opener but have since gone four games without a win, drawing with ten-man Tottenham most recently. Manager Michael Carrick will be without midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and defender Luke Shaw, both of whom picked up injuries in Saturday's match against Spurs and have not travelled to Madrid.

The two sides have met four times previously, with this being only their third Champions League encounter. The competition has entered its second matchday as part of the new 36-team league phase format, where each club plays eight matches before the top eight qualify directly for the knockout rounds.
