Jack Robinson, 30, has been named Midlands Plant Mechanic of the Year at the Construction Plant-hire Association Stars of the Future Awards 2026.

Jack Robinson, aged 30, has won the Midlands Plant Mechanic of the Year award at the Construction Plant-hire Association Stars of the Future Awards 2026. He is completing a Level 2 Plant Mechanic apprenticeship with Wiltshire College & University Centre and is employed by infrastructure firm Amey.

Robinson said winning the award was 'a fantastic achievement' and noted that 'being chosen as the winner from among so many talented mechanics shows the effort I put in every day'.

The award was part of a strong performance by Wiltshire College, which had eight of its apprentices recognised across Level 2 Plant Mechanic and Level 3 Plant Technician categories. Two Level 3 apprentices were highly commended: James Cuthbert, employed by SMT GB, in the Midlands category, and Fraser Grigor, also with SMT GB, in the Scotland category.

Five further apprentices reached the regional finals. Bayley Lewis of Bristol Port Company, and SMT GB apprentices Ben McManus, Scott Price, Kyle Pearcey and William Mitson all made it through.

Kellie Angell, apprenticeship manager at Wiltshire College & University Centre, said the results reflected 'not only their own dedication and hard work, but also the commitment of our employer partners and staff'. The college was also shortlisted for College of the Year.
