T Level enrolment at Wiltshire College & University Centre has increased by nearly 50 per cent to more than 600 students this academic year, up from around 400 the previous year. The two-year qualifications, equivalent to three A Levels, combine classroom study with at least 45 days of industry placement and cover subjects including agriculture, engineering, business, computing, education and health.
Ann Simpson, work placement team leader at the college, said: 'Industry placements are at the heart of T Levels, giving students the opportunity to develop real workplace skills, build confidence, and gain experience that simply can't be replicated in the classroom.'
One success story is 19-year-old Lucy Harding from Westbury, who completed a T Level in engineering and secured an apprenticeship at AJM Engineering in Corsham. She said: 'I started on Level 2, worked my way up to Level 3, and now I'm on an apprenticeship with the employer I did my work experience with. It's amazing what you can do after getting that bit of education.' Harding was named Engineering Student of the Year at the college's annual Student Awards.
The college partners with employers across Wiltshire and beyond to offer placements. Rich Garland, account director at Mitie, which supports T Level students through placements at its MOD Corsham site, said: 'What students bring is energy, enthusiasm, and a fresh perspective.' The placements help students gain practical skills while allowing businesses to identify and nurture future talent.
