Wiltshire Police marks control room week with team recognition

Summarised from 4 outlets · Updated 27 Oct, 05:59 · Archive

Wiltshire Police is celebrating its Contact Management Team during International Control Room Week.

Wiltshire Police is marking International Control Room Week by recognising its Contact Management Team, which handles all 999 and 101 calls across the county. Since last November, the team has answered 116,968 emergency calls and 120,233 non-emergency calls.

Nicola West, contact management operations manager at Wiltshire Police, said: 'I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the Contact Management Team for their hard work and dedication over the past year.' She noted that some shifts can be incredibly demanding and require decisions to be made in challenging circumstances.

A single shift can involve a missing person, a serious collision, a crime in progress or someone experiencing a mental health crisis, all of which require careful management by the team. The Contact Management Team provides critical frontline support to the force, making rapid decisions to assess risk, coordinate police response, and ensure victims of crime receive the right safeguarding and assistance.

No two shifts are ever the same, with staff regularly handling life-threatening emergencies, serious incidents and complex cases requiring empathy, professionalism and calm under pressure. Over the summer, Wiltshire Police reported a 7.4 per cent annual increase of 999 calls in June, with three days in one week that month exceeding levels recorded during New Year's Eve 2025.

Wiltshire Police said: 'This International Control Room Week, we are putting a spotlight on our Contact Management team, who are ready, day and night, to help those who need it the most.'
