Wiltshire Wildlife Trust launches £10,000 appeal for reserves

Summarised from 4 outlets · Updated 15 Oct, 06:00 · Archive

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has launched an appeal to raise £10,000 to improve access and facilities at two nature reserves.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has launched an Autumn Appeal to raise £10,000 for improvements at two of its flagship nature reserves, Lower Moor Farm and Langford Lakes. The funding will support upgrades focusing on accessibility, interpretation and visitor experience.

Planned improvements include new boardwalks, updated signage and enhanced wildlife interpretation at bird hides. These changes aim to create more welcoming and accessible spaces while supporting the conservation of wildlife and habitats. Both reserves offer opportunities to see species such as kingfishers and lapwings.

Becki Mckinlay, director of engagement and fundraising at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, said: 'We want as many people as possible to experience the joy of nature whether that be through their first go at bird watching in one of our hides or a gentle walk around the lakes taking time to stop and enjoy the views.' She added that when people experience nature, 'they come to care about it, and they are more likely to take action to protect it.'

Much of the work will be funded by a grant from the Landfill Communities Fund. However, to unlock this funding, the trust must first raise at least £10,000 in Contributing Third Party payments, which are paid to the landfill operator. These payments do not go directly to the charity and are not eligible for Gift Aid, but each contribution significantly increases the value of the grant.
