Witney Town Council is accepting nominations for its annual Citizen of the Year awards, with particular emphasis on recognising young people.

Witney Town Council has opened nominations for its annual Citizen of the Year awards, which recognise outstanding contributions to the town. The awards honour people of all ages who give their time, energy and kindness to improve the lives of others.

The council said it particularly wants to hear about young people who are making a difference. 'There are so many doing brilliant things – caring for others, running clubs, fundraising, volunteering, helping younger children and supporting their communities,' the council stated.

Award categories include Citizen of the Year (18 and over), Young Citizen of the Year (17 and under), and Organisation, Group or Sports Team of the Year. There are also awards for Outstanding Merit, Outstanding Commitment to Public Service, and Outstanding Contribution. The Best Allotment award has returned after a few years away. Nominees must either live in Witney or carry out their nominated work in the town.

The awards will be presented by the Mayor at the Civic Reception in March 2027.
