A Woodbridge festival on October 17 celebrates Suffolk fruit and local farming after a difficult harvest.
An ice-cream maker and a fruit farmer are joining forces for an end-of-harvest festival in Woodbridge. The Apple, Pear and Pumpkin Festival will be held at Market Hill on Saturday, October 17, from 10am to 4pm. Ugur Vata, owner of The Galley Creamery & Deli, has organised it alongside Andrew Youngman of Red House Farm in Charsfield, who grows blackcurrants for Ribena as well as apples, plums and pears.
The pair hope to encourage shoppers to try locally-grown fruits and ice creams made from them. Vata said he wants shoppers to discover the differences between varieties and understand the work involved in growing and processing fruit. 'It's extremely satisfying - it puts Woodbridge on the map. The local farmers have been getting recognition,' he said. This will be Vata's fourth festival of the year, and he hopes the events become a regular fixture to draw Saturday shoppers and families in future years.
