Díaz's Rays guarantee fails to inspire Guardians

Rays batter Yandy Díaz guaranteed a Game 6 victory after Sunday's win, but Guardians manager said he was unaware of the comments.

Yandy Díaz guaranteed that the Tampa Bay Rays would win Game 6 of the AL Championship series after his team defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3–1 on Sunday. Díaz, who had three hits in that game, said the opportunity to advance to the World Series was 'a great opportunity' for the Rays, but added: 'We're going to win (Monday).'

The Rays led 3–2 in the best-of-seven series and had a chance to close out the Guardians on Monday night to reach the World Series for the third time in the franchise's 29 seasons.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said he was unaware Díaz had made the comments. When asked whether they provided additional motivation or were blown out of proportion, Vogt said: 'Probably somewhere in the middle of that.' He added that his team prefers to focus on itself. The Guardians face elimination and are seeking to repeat their comeback from falling 0–2 behind the Chicago White Sox in their divisional series.
