YouTuber JaackMaate and his Happy Hour podcast co-hosts will switch on Norwich's Christmas lights on 19 November.
YouTuber Jack Dean, known online as JaackMaate, will switch on Norwich's Christmas lights outside City Hall on Thursday 19 November, alongside his Happy Hour podcast co-hosts Stevie White and Robbie Knox. The Lord Mayor of Norwich, Councillor Karen Davies, surprised the trio with a formal invitation after Dean mentioned on a podcast episode that switching on the city's festive lights was on his bucket list.
Dean, who has 1.3 million followers, said it was 'a privilege' to have been asked. He added: 'As a trio we have been lucky enough to have done some mad stuff in our careers… but this is right up there.' Councillor Davies said the annual switch-on was 'a cherished Norwich tradition' that showed 'the warmth, community spirit and togetherness that make our city so special'.
The evening will begin with live entertainment including music, comedy, dancing and the annual snowball throw. Performers announced so far include Dr DJ's Dad Dancing Dispensary and Not Your Average Choir, with further acts to be announced. Following the switch-on, the first Norwich Winter Sessions will bring music and seasonal events to Hay Hill and Gentleman's Walk, organised by Norwich Business Improvement District.
