Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 29 Oct, 13:46 · Archive

Aldi plans a £14 million supermarket on a former car showroom at Maryhill Road in Glasgow, creating up to 35 jobs.

Aldi has unveiled plans to build a new store at 262 Maryhill Road in Glasgow, on the corner of Maryhill Road and Hopehill Road. The supermarket represents a £14 million investment and would be built on the site of a former car showroom.

The proposed store would have a net retail sales area of 1,191 square metres and include 99 parking spaces. These comprise 76 standard bays, seven parent-and-child spaces, six accessible spaces and nine electric vehicle spaces, including dedicated accessible and parent-and-child EV bays.

Aldi said the development would create up to 35 jobs, as well as supporting additional employment during construction and throughout the wider supply chain. Andy Doyle, Real Estate Director at Aldi, said the retailer hoped 'to build on our existing presence in the city and provide residents in Maryhill and the surrounding area with greater access to affordable, high-quality food and everyday essentials'.

The retailer is seeking public feedback before submitting a planning application. A drop-in consultation event will be held at Woodside Halls on Glenfarg Street on 12 November between 3pm and 7pm, giving local residents the opportunity to view the plans and share their views.
