Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 30 Oct, 14:34 · Archive

Three men were arrested after a white BMW and black Mercedes were driven at speed through Chester and onto the M56 motorway on Monday, 26 October.

Police were first alerted to a hit-and-run collision involving a white BMW 3 Series on St Oswalds Way in Chester city centre at around 4.50pm. Three minutes later, officers received reports that the same BMW appeared to be involved in a pursuit with a black Mercedes along Hoole Road. Over the next 15 minutes, multiple calls came in from members of the public reporting the two vehicles driving at excessive speeds on the M56. The Mercedes had its boot open during the pursuit and was missing a tyre.

At 5.08pm, officers were informed that both vehicles were parked on the hard shoulder of the M56 eastbound near junction 11. Two men were seen fleeing the Mercedes on foot into a wooded area at the side of the carriageway. The BMW had left the scene before police arrived but was later located in Warrington.

A 19-year-old and 62-year-old from Chester were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. A 35-year-old from Stalybridge, Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. All three were released on unconditional bail. Cheshire Police is appealing for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward.
