The BBC has rejected claims that actor Richard E Grant's early elimination from Celebrity Traitors was faked.

The BBC has refuted claims that Richard E Grant's early elimination from Celebrity Traitors was faked. Grant outed himself as a Traitor only moments after being selected in what he described as a botched attempt at a double bluff.

The Sun published a piece suggesting Grant could have staged the moment to leave the show without committing to a full season, citing an undisclosed source who claimed people behind the scenes were "convinced he staged it". However, the BBC had already insisted the incident was an innocent mistake. Grant himself told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire that it was "completely catastrophically idiotic", questioning what producers must have thought. Joe Lycett, to whom Grant made his initial admission, told The Mirror: "There's no game around that, he absolutely meant it when he said it to me." The show's executive producer Sarah Fay said she had never seen anything like it happen before in the time Traitors has been on air.
