Bradford healthcare and care workers have received national and local recognition for their dedication to patient and resident care.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals' Moving and Handling Team has won the Health Care Team of the Year award at the NBE Excellence Awards, organised by the National Back Exchange, a UK charity promoting safe moving and handling in healthcare and social care. The team includes Shirley Horsfall, Katarzyna Babaczyk, Yasar Hussain, administrator Jed Lazarte, and Helen Naylor, who was also separately recognised with the Simon Love Mentorship Award.

Naylor said the awards celebrate moving and handling practitioners across the UK and recognise those who go above and beyond to promote safe practice. She said she was nominated for her mentorship award by several individuals she mentors across West Yorkshire, adding: "I love sharing my knowledge and it feels good to help, support and guide other practitioners coming through into my area of expertise but it's the quality impact on the patients that is most important to me."

Separately, Emily Roberts, a care worker at Laurel Bank care home in Wilsden, is one of three finalists in this year's Bradford Cares Excellence Awards' Care Worker of the Year category for adult social care. Roberts has worked at the home for four years. Bernie Suresparan, chief executive of Summit Care Group, said: "Her dedication, kindness and the relationships she builds with residents reflect the difference a great care worker can make." Winners of the Bradford awards will be announced on Thursday, November 5.
