Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 13 Oct, 20:32 · Archive

Manchester United played Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday while Barcelona faced Galatasaray.

Manchester United travelled to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday while Barcelona headed to Turkey to play Galatasaray. United's season has been difficult: the club has won just once in the Premier League and already exited the English League Cup, focusing attention on manager Michael Carrick.

Carrick acknowledged the pressure. 'I understand when it's not going too well there's a real kind of clamor and a real feeling of, it's a disaster, it's all wrong and everything needs to be changed,' he said ahead of the match at the Metropolitano. 'I kind of get that but that's not in our mindset. To achieve anything, really, you've got to be able to deal with things that are difficult and you've got to overcome things.'

Barcelona arrived in Turkey with an unblemished record. Manager Hansi Flick said his team had the hunger to succeed but acknowledged the difficulty ahead. 'We have that hunger, and I share it with the team. It's not easy and we have to work very hard. That's what we have to do every day,' he said. Barcelona has not won the Champions League since 2015.
