Haworth cheese shop Riddle and Rind marks first anniversary

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 10 Oct, 04:19 · Archive

Independent cheese shop Riddle and Rind in Haworth has marked its first anniversary with a day of celebrations.

Riddle and Rind, an independent cheese shop on Main Street in Haworth, has celebrated its first anniversary with a day of activities. The shop is run by Hayley Smith and Michael Shaw, who opened after their original plans to run themed escape rooms fell through.

Ms Smith explained that they had initially looked to purchase a building for themed escape rooms with Haworth connections, including 1940s espionage, steampunk and The Railway Children. However, they decided not to place an escape room on street level as it would spoil the appearance of the street. After searching for an alternative use for the space, they decided to open a cheese shop, as both are keen cheese enthusiasts.

Ms Smith said of the shop's name: 'We are both big cheese buffs, so it was the obvious choice – Riddle for the escape room, and Rind for the cheese. Except we didn't get planning for the escape room.' She added that the first year had passed quickly and described Haworth as a 'very community-based village' in which they aimed to be involved. The anniversary coincided with Haworth's Steampunk Weekend and Stilton Week. Proceeds from the anniversary activities went to Manorlands Hospice in Keighley.
