Former footballer Chris Kamara will join schoolchildren and retired Olympian Jonny Brownlee in a running challenge for Children in Need.

Former footballer Chris Kamara is joining schoolchildren and retired Olympian Jonny Brownlee for a Children in Need running challenge at Outwood Primary Academy Lofthouse Gate in Wakefield on 10 November. The school will attempt to run a collective 500 miles in four hours, with every pupil taking part.

Kamara, 68, was diagnosed with the neurological condition apraxia, which has affected his speech, balance and movement. He said he has had to relearn how to run since his diagnosis. Despite running not being easy for him, he is keen to support the challenge. He said: 'We don't see loads and loads of kids out playing football these days... we see them on their computers and iPads... anything that encourages them to get outside and do stuff is so important'.

Brownlee, a six-time triathlon world champion, accepted an invitation from pupils to join the challenge after they recorded a video message asking him. BBC Radio Leeds will broadcast live from the school's playground during the event. The challenge is part of Run for Pudsey, a fundraising initiative across the UK. Kamara has recently completed the Great North Run and hopes to compete in the London Marathon next year.
