David Lloyd gym in Norwich has been approved to build three padel courts at its Drayton High Road site.

Broadland District Council planners have approved plans for David Lloyd Norwich to install three padel courts at its Drayton High Road site, located at the former Norwich Sports Village.

The courts will be built on two existing tennis courts at the facility, with one of the three courts to be covered. Planners acknowledged that the development would result in the loss of two existing tennis courts but determined that 'the level of harm is not detrimental'.

According to planning papers submitted on behalf of the health club, there are currently 107 padel courts at 52 clubs across the UK, with numbers expected to grow substantially. David Lloyd states it is 'at the forefront of this tennis revolution in the UK', having incorporated padel tennis into more than 50 of its locations and is now including it across all new clubs.
